You are remarkable.

You are rescuing animals. You are taking on the NRA. You are protecting America’s wild places from oil drilling. The list of remarkable things people reading this blog do is endless.

Still, many of us who work in the non profit space get bogged down by the daily grind. We get dull. We get jaded. We get predictable.

Your job is to connect to your remarkable and make it come alive for people who support you each and every day. If you are dull to it, they will be dull to it.

How can you connect to your remarkable and make it come alive for donors? How can you bridge your donors’ experience gap and connect them to special moments they are making possible?

Over the weekend, I read this poem by the great Sufi master Hafiz.

You are the sun in drag.
You are God hiding from yourself.
Listen to what your friend Hafiz
Knows for certain:
You are a divine elephant with amnesia
Trying to live in an ant hole.

I think we are all divine elephants with amnesia. Let’s wake up. Let’s remember. That’s the only way we can inspire others to do the same.
