I’m in the Democratic Republic of Congo with Population Services International, a Sea Change client. I am leading a three-day training with their field staff on why stories are important for fundraising, how to identify the right types, the essential building blocks of story and how to write them to get more funding.

We’ve designed the training so that each participant will have a chance to go into the field  to interview a subject. A photographer will accompany them and they will be asked to give him direction on what types of photos to capture. The workshop will culminate with the participant writing the story, choosing the best photo and presenting both to the group for feedback.

Margaret Cohen and I have done this training in Port Au Prince, Haiti and Kampala, Uganda. We are excited to see how it unfolds in Kinshasa, DRC. I’ll update the blog when I return with results.
